This book deals with the basic question of how players should train and prepare for matches. It gives the answers independent on the level and whether the player is training once or 10 times per week. A special chapter is allocated the development of youth players and the very important question about how to train young soccer players is addressed.

Almost all the training is done with the ball. A high number of training drills is presented each thorough explained with guidelines for the coach. The book covers the basic knowledge within fitness training corresponding to the UEFA B/A-license.
The author is Dr. Jens Bangsbo who is professor at the international renowned Institute of Exercise and Sport Sciences, August Krogh Institute, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He has between 2001 and 2004 been the assistant coach of the successful first team of Juventus FC, winning two Italian Championships, two Super Cups and been in the Champions League final 2003. He also took part in the coaching staff of the Danish National team for EURO2004.
He is an UEFA and FIFA instructor. He has played more than 350 matches in the top Danish League and played in the Danish national teams both as a youth and senior player. He is the author of the books "Fitness Training in Football - a Scientific Approach", "Physiology of Soccer", and the tactical books "Soccer Systems and Strategies", "Offensive Soccer Tactics" and "Defensive Soccer Tactics”. Each of the books has been translated to a high number of other languages.
He has written more than 200 scientific articles and reviews. He is the editor of a number of books regarding sport and science and he is a member of the international steering group of "Football and Science". His ability to combine scientific knowledge with years of experience on the soccer field is widely respected all over the world.
