Technical performance during a soccer match
This study analyzed 186 players for a total of 416 individual games in the Italian serie A. It was demonstrated that: 1) Players from the less successful teams cover more total distance (4%), high-intensity running (11%) and very high-intensity running (9%) compared to the players from the more successful teams; 2) Players in the most successful clubs cover a greater total distance (18%) and high-intensity running with the ball (16%) compared to players from the less successful clubs. Involvements with the ball, short passes, successful short passes, tackles, dribbling, shots and shots on target were also higher in the more successful teams than in the less successful teams; 3) Involvements with the ball (-9%), short passes (-11%) and successful short passes (-11%) decrease between the first and the second half.
Recommendations: Players at all levels should experience a high number of contacts with the ball during the training sessions involving intense exercise.
